The TableMinis Bakes, Bites & Breakfast Book Club: City of Others

📚 The government takes care of everything—even the weird stuff.

As the nation gears up for National Day, we are celebrating our local literary scene by diving into Jared Poon’s wickedly funny and heartfelt urban fantasy debut, City of Others. Forget the standard red-and-white parades for a moment—what happens when an entire housing estate in Clementi glitches out of existence, and it’s up to an overworked, under-resourced team of magical bureaucrats to save the day? Join us to find out.

Step into the secret side of the Little Red Dot, where ghostly cats, jinn, and Southeast Asian folklore hide just beneath the veneer of suburban order.

Meet Benjamin Toh, a middle manager in the Division for Engagement of Unusual Stakeholders (DEUS). His job is simple: keep Singapore's supernatural population happy, out of sight, and out of senior management's hair. But when reality starts unraveling block by block, Ben and his chaotic, ragtag workplace found-family have to brave the pasar bayang (shadow markets) and juggle office politics with world-ending stakes. It’s a brilliant, laugh-out-loud love letter to Singaporean, resilience, and the everyday magic of keeping the city running.

As per usual, there’ll be good company, good conversation, and some very good food!!
