Before the dragon's arrival, the mountain stronghold was a whispered legend. Nestled near a thriving settlement, it thrived with supplies and patrons, yet its remote location kept it safe from the watchful eyes of rulers. This citadel, a hallowed ground for curses, was built with fervent devotion by priests and mages. Common folk, in exchange for a year of service, aided in its construction, guarding, maintenance, and cooking. The wealthy, however, secured their curses with Shadowsteel or gold.
Enter Chuldroth, a young blightscale dragon, driven to madness by his cursed, ravaged body. Harboring a grudge against the citadel for his plight, he launched a furious attack. A rockslide sealed the entrance, trapping the inhabitants, while Chuldroth clawed a gaping hole in the mountainside, claiming the ruined cathedral as his lair. The guardians who dared to oppose him met their demise. Now, the citadel is a haunted shell, its halls echoing with the restless dead, awaiting the day the dragon abandons his cursed throne.
